چکیده

Abstract Background Two plant essential oils, basil ( Ocimum basilicum L.) and petitgrain mandarin Citrus reticulate L.), one pyrethroid chemical insecticide, lambda-cyhalothrin, were evaluated against two of the most important stored product insect pests, Sitophilus oryzae Rhyzopertha dominica , on wheat grains under laboratory conditions using mixing with feeding method. The effect tested materials was studied F 1 progeny insects. Chemical components oils side effects protein content percentage, total carbohydrates grain germination investigated. Results obtained showed that had a good insecticidal Petitgrain oil premier. reduced progeny. In addition, progressive periods after storage (0–180 days) significantly (%) compared to control. Nearly, there no significant differences between treatments (LC 50 LC 95 ) (petitgrain) parameters. Germination percentages from 0 180 days post-storage slight control for oils. Lambda-cyhalothrin germination, especially 60 days. analysis demonstrated main linalool, eugenol, methyl chavicol cani, while dimethyl panthenalate, α-terpinene, β-cinem citral accounting 71.1 95% respectively. Conclusions results proved an obvious role in suppressing activity insects can be used integrated pest management program. as green pesticides effective alternatives pesticides.

Characterisation of Response to Phosphine in Adults of Representative Strains of Sitophilus Zeamais (motsch.), Sitophilus Oryzae (l.) and Rhyzopertha Dominica (f.) from China

The effects of exposure period and phosphine concentration were quantified in adults of representative strains of Sitophilus zeamais (Motsch.), Sitophilus oryzae (L.) and Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) from China. All three species are major pests of stored grain in China. Although phosphine resistance is common in Chinese S. oryzae and R. dominica, with some very resistant populations, it is not pr...

Fumigant Toxicity of Lamiaceae Plant Essential Oils and Blends of Their Constituents against Adult Rice Weevil Sitophilus oryzae.

To find a new and safe alternative to conventional insecticides, we evaluated the fumigant toxicity of eight Lamiaceae essential oils and their constituents against the adult rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae. Of the eight species tested, hyssop (Hyssopus offcinalis), majoram (Origanum majorana), and Thymus zygis essential oils showed strong fumigant toxicity against S. oryzae adults at 25 mg/L air...

Insecticidal Effects of Peppermint and Black Pepper Essential Oils against Rice Weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. and Rice Moth, Corcyra cephalonica (St.)

Background: The rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae and rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica are major and cosmopolitan insect. Adults of S. oryzae (male and female) and both larvae are insatiable feeders on a great variety of grains. Objective: This study was conducted to estimate the insecticidal effect of essential oils from peppermint, Mentha piperita L. and black pepper, Piper nigrum L. ag...

Antioxidant Capacity of Selected Plant Extracts and Their Essential Oils.

The main objective of this study was the screening of some selected aromatic plants very popular in Greece, with respect to their total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, reducing activity, and oxidative stability. All plants were extracted with the conventional method, reflux with methanol. The essential oils of the plants were also analyzed for their antioxidant properties. The total phe...

Survival of Sitophilus oryzae (L.) on wheat treated with diatomaceous earth: impact of biological and environmental parameters on product efficacy

A series of experiments was conducted to evaluate the effects of temperature, relative humidity (r.h.), population density, concentration, exposure interval, and residual aging on susceptibility of Sitophilus oryzae (L.), the rice weevil, to diatomaceous earth (DE). In the first experiment, hard red winter wheat was treated with 300 ppm of the Protect-Itt formulation of DE, and 10, 20, or 30 1–...
